Rochem's
Patented DT Membrane Module Systems, have been successful
in the treatment of Raw & Biomethanated Spentwash with
recoveries of up to 70% RO & NF Permeate, thereby reducing
the Hydraulic Load & making treatment option of composting
and Incineration viable.
ADVANTAGES
-
Reduces
pressmud and land requirements by reducing Hydraulic
Load
-
Pressmud
ratio remains unchanged for composting of concentrate
-
Savings
in power cost by elimation of aeration
-
Reduces
cost of evaporation / High Thermal Energy applications

Background
|
Distilleries
producing alcohol using sugar cane molasses as the
raw material produce considerable quantity of one
of the most obnoxious effluents, with high BOD, COD
& TDS.
It is called Spentwash or Dunder or Vinasse. Depending
on the technology of fermentation & distillation being
used the effluent quality may vary from about 7Lts.
to 15Lts. per litre of alcohol produced.
Accordingly the values for BOD range from 50,000 ppm
to 70,000 ppm; COD from 100,000 ppm to 200,000 ppm.
Apart from these high pollutant values, its colour
is dark blackish brown, which was found impossible
to be removed by any known technology.
Otherwise, due to its large volume dark colour & high
degree of pollutants, its pollution control & proper
disposal has been a challenge. |

Features :
The installed system treats the input wastewater to generate
50% colourless permeate of which can be reused for fermentation
while reducing the total hydraulic load of the wastewater.
The concentrated waste can now be subjected to disposal
technologies such as composting & incineration which are
viable in view of the reduced hydraulic load.
Unit has run successfully & continuously at rated capacity
for last 1 yr. without requirement of membrane replacements.
